SUSCO, LLC — Job Description

SUSCO, LLC is expanding our telecom construction crews and is seeking experienced Driller/Locator Operators to support broadband installation projects across the region. This role is essential in helping deliver high-speed internet to underserved communities through Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) and Reconnect/RDOF builds.

The Driller/Locator will operate directional drilling rigs, locating systems, and support equipment for telecom infrastructure projects, working alongside professional crews using high-quality equipment, including Subsite Marksman & F2+ locating systems and Ditch Witch, Vermeer, and Universal drilling rigs.

• —Operate directional drilling rigs, locating equipment, mini-excavators, mud pumps, and mud-mixing systems.
• —Perform horizontal directional drilling (HDD) while following strict safety guidelines.
• —Dig trenches/holes and support all required site preparation activities.
• —Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting on drilling equipment.
• —Collaborate with crew members to plan and execute daily drilling operations.
• —Maintain full compliance with OSHA safety standards and company policies.
• —Monitor bore paths, adjust techniques, and ensure accurate drill shots.

• —Minimum 2 years of experience in directional drilling or locating (required).
• —Proficient in operating small HDD rigs (25-ton and smaller).
• —Strong mechanical skills for diagnosing and repairing equipment issues.
• —Ability to work outdoors on active construction sites.
• —Strong communication, teamwork, and situational awareness.

Field Position — Underground Utility Construction

SUSCO Construction Services LLC is an underground utility contractor specializing in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), hydrovac excavation, underground utility installation, fiber construction, restoration, and related civil construction. We operate multiple HDD crews and continue to expand our underground utility operations throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and surrounding markets.

We're hiring an experienced Hydrovac Operator with a valid Class A or Class B CDL and Tanker (N) endorsement to join our growing underground utility construction team.

This position primarily supports our Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) crews by potholing and daylighting existing underground utilities before drilling. We're looking for an experienced operator who can safely and efficiently run hydrovac equipment around gas, electric, water, sewer, fiber, telecommunications, and other underground utilities.

We are specifically looking for an experienced hydrovac operator — not simply a CDL driver. The right candidate can get into the truck and safely perform utility potholing and daylighting with minimal training, and understands the importance of positively exposing existing utilities before HDD operations. Efficiently and correctly exposing utilities is a critical part of keeping our HDD crews moving and preventing utility strikes.

• —Safely operate hydrovac/vacuum excavation equipment
• —Perform potholing and daylighting to expose existing underground utilities
• —Support HDD bore crews by verifying utility locations and depths before drilling
• —Safely excavate around utilities using high-pressure water and vacuum systems
• —Properly expose and protect existing utilities
• —Transport and properly dispose of spoils in accordance with company and project requirements
• —Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
• —Maintain the hydrovac truck, hoses, tools, and associated equipment
• —Complete required DOT inspections, daily reports, and disposal documentation
• —Communicate effectively with supervisors, drillers, locators, inspectors, and other field personnel
• —Follow OSHA, DOT, customer, and SUSCO safety requirements
• —Assist underground utility crews with additional field work when needed

Required

• —Valid Class A or Class B CDL
• —Tanker (N) endorsement
• —Previous hydrovac/vacuum excavation operating experience
• —Ability to safely work around existing underground utilities
• —Knowledge of proper vacuum excavation techniques
• —Ability to perform daily equipment inspections and basic troubleshooting
• —Acceptable driving record; must meet applicable DOT requirements
• —Must be able to pass required drug screening
• —Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions
• —Ability to lift, pull, carry, and handle hydrovac hoses and equipment
• —Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently when required

Preferred

• —Experience potholing/daylighting existing underground utilities
• —HDD or underground utility construction experience

Current travel requirement is approximately 15–25%. Travel requirements are subject to change at any time based on project locations, workload, and company needs. Projects may be located throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and surrounding areas — employees may occasionally be away from home during the workweek depending on project location.

When overnight travel is required, SUSCO pays for lodging and provides a $45/day per diem. Work schedules and overtime will vary based on project requirements, production, weather, and customer needs.
